Chapter 1258

“Let go!”
Kyson held on tightly.
With a deep breath, Lucinda recalled Sonny and the bloodied state he was in at the prison earlier that morning. Anger swelled within her.
Jamie hadn’t returned yet.
She then lifted her hand and landed two heavy slaps on his delicate face.

She struck him hard and without mercy.
Pain jolted him awake, causing him to release his grip and sit up on the sofa.
Rubbing his throbbing head and cheek, he looked up at Lucinda, dazed and bewildered.
“Lucinda?”
She raised her chin. Her face was devoid of any remorse as she declared, “You came to my place in the middle of the night to cause a scene and disturb my sleep! Now that you’ve woken up, get the hell out of here!”
Kyson bent his head and suddenly began to sob as if he didn’t hear anything she said.
He looked sad and helpless, and his eyes were red with tears. Palm marks were imprinted on his face, making him seem even more pitiful.

Lucinda glanced at his tear-filled eyes and replied with indifference, “Quit the act! Just leave. No amount of air freshener can mask your foul stench.”
She looked away and turned to ascend the stairs, but he once again grabbed hold of her robe.
“Lucinda, can you recall seven years ago when we raced horses on Greenland? I jumped into the pond to pick lotus flowers for you, and I taught you how to shoot. We built snowmen together in the winter and had snowball fights. We were carefree back then…”
She halted, but refused to face him.
Kyson seemed lost in a bittersweet memory as tears continued to stream down his face.
“I’m an illegitimate child. Despite my father’s attempts to hide my identity, I have numerous half-siblings. I hold no status in the Shaw family. My father was also too busy to care for me. If I faced bullying, I had no choice but to endure it in silence.
From a young age, I knew I had to fight for what I wanted! You were the one I wanted to marry. And I made the decision to leave you temporarily and work for the Secret Investigation Department so I could one day be good enough for you, the daughter of the richest man in the country.
Those training days were grueling! Yet, the thought of you kept me going. I hoped you would wait for me! Just a few more years… When I became the Chief of the Secret Investigation Department, I planned to return and marry you, but…”
He spoke amidst sobs.
All these years, he had borne his pain alone. He had never shown such vulnerability in front of anyone.
“But I never expected that in the second year after I left, you had an accident. You even ended up in Forden and married Nathan! I deeply regret it! I regret not holding on to you back then! Why did I let you slip away?”
A flood of memories rushed through Lucinda’s mind.
